For lunch, my buddy Adrian and I went to The Burger Joint, at 106 North Washington Street, in Old Town Alexandria. They have this cool BGR logo like Black Dog in Martha’s Vineyard or OBX for the Outer Banks in North Carolina. I wondered if they sold BGR stickers inside. Since we always go to Panera Bread, I relented and let Adrian pick where we ate lunch. This is Adrian, picking The Burger Joint.

This is Adrian waiting in line.

The Burger Joint was a welcoming spot, with purple walls and the absence of a long line. We must have just missed the lunch rush, because almost every seat was taken.

Adrian ordered “The Burger” without lettuce (weirdo) which includes ‘lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle and mojo sauce’ and I ordered “The Wellington”, which includes ‘deep roasted mushrooms, caramelized onions, garlic, black truffles and a touch of mustard seed and blue cheese, on a buttery brioche bun with their mojo sauce’, which is a house mayo. Sounds yummy, right?

Assorted beverages to choose from.

One of the things I liked about this place was the touch-screen digital soda machine. I’ve never seen one of these before. Maybe I just need to get out more.

We waited for our burgers to be ready and played with my camera.

And then, there they were. This is my Wellington. At first, I thought they’d given me two pieces of beef.

And then I looked closer. What I thought was a piece of beef was the black truffles. All the goodies, the caramelized onions, mushrooms and garlic were wrapped up in the black truffles, which looked eerily like dog shit.

Adrian’s “Burger” looked good. He also got what BGR calls “The Orange Standard”, their sweet potato fries.

I guess it was good!

Mine was pretty good, after I scraped off the black truffles. I just couldn’t get over it. :-/

I’d go back to order some of “The Gold Standard”, their golden fries. Oh, and there were no BGR stickers inside. Later for now, BGR,
