On Tuesday, September 14th, me and some of my homies went to the Cirque du Soleil show at the National Harbor, in town from September 9th through October 24th. This year’s show was titled “Ovo!” which means egg, an insect inspired show.

Before the show, we all went to Outback in Rivertowne to eat up and carpool to the circus tent, in order to pay the $12 parking fee once.

Me and Shinavia.

My sister Soiyete and Ronette, my coworker at VSE. She’s a Collins too so some people at work actually think she’s my cousin, lol.

After parking in the dirt and walking across the gravel: the tents at Ovo.

Got my tix at Will Call!

Last year, for “Kooza!”, we arrived so late that not only did we have to wait to enter the tent (for music to play, to avoid interrupting the show), we didn’t have time to peruse Cirque merch. This year, we did it right. 20 minutes until showtime (8 pm), we entered the merch tent.

There was all kinds of cool stuff, Cirque t-shirts, Cirque umbrellas, Cirque keychains, and even costumes. They had the coolest Cirque masks. I assume some like these are worn in other shows.

Whoa, she’s not only flexible, she’s nekkid.
By the way, in case you’re wondering–no search of any kind, not even metal detectors. I could have brought my entire camera bag if I wanted to and a 12-pack of beer if 12 actual cans of beer didn’t take up a ton of space. Still, no pics are allowed within the Cirque performance tent. “No pics allowed” to me means pics are “discouraged”.
At 7:55 pm, we took our seats, and waited for the show to start. Our seats were way to the right side of the stage. My shoddy photo includes just about everyone in the audience, so as you can see, there’s really no such thing as a “bad seat” in the Cirque tent.
Everyone stared at the egg-like formation on the stage, and the audience was buzzing. After a minute or two, you realized that it wasn’t just the audience buzzing, but insect sounds were playing all over the tent, under and over our seats. We felt like we were in a rainforest.

And the show began. Luckily, Cirque’s website offers much cooler photos than are ever allowed by us audience members.

Much of the show focused on the fly and the ladybug’s romance. I kept wondering, “Are they going to mate and produce an egg?”

The contortionists always blow our minds.

It was cool to see the acrobats as insects. Obviously, this one is a spider.
This one too. A black widow even!

This part of the show (with the floor opened and trampolines exposed) looked like so much fun that I bet most of the audience wanted to participate.

Not this part though, lol.

Everybody wants to know what’s inside that giant indescribable suit in front of the stage. It danced and shook and boogied to the music and sometimes stretched 10 feet wide or collapsed like a giant slinky, it was incredibly entertaining to watch. We were like, “Are there two people inside that suit, or one?”

We already know we’re coming next year, no matter what the show is!

Come out and enjoy it while it’s still in town, a really marvelous show and worth every penny,
Insana
